{"id":487,"date":"2012-04-30T19:41:13","date_gmt":"2012-05-01T02:41:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kevinneal.com\/blog\/?p=487"},"modified":"2014-02-05T20:33:20","modified_gmt":"2014-02-06T03:33:20","slug":"moscow_march_2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kevinneal.com\/blog\/moscow_march_2012\/","title":{"rendered":"My first trip to Moscow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I made my first business trip to Moscow a few weeks ago.\u00a0 It was a remarkable experience and it\u2019s always very interesting for me to indulge in different countries and cultures.<\/p>\n<p>Traveling internationally has a great way to put things into perspective.\u00a0 The world is a very big place, but at the core \u201cpeople are people\u201d.\u00a0 What people want is to live, work and be in peace.\u00a0 We all have that in common for the most part.\u00a0 One of our drivers was kind enough to take a slight detour and drive by infamous Red Square as seen in the photo below:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"center\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kevinneal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/moscow_red_21.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-489\" title=\"Moscow - Red Square Wall\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kevinneal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/moscow_red_square-1024x764.jpg\" width=\"502\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kevinneal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/moscow_red_square-1024x764.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.kevinneal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/moscow_red_square-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 502px) 100vw, 502px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Russian people aren\u2019t so unlike American or Japanese people as you might imagine, in my opinion.\u00a0 I have found obvious commonalities in each of these cultures are a \u2018hard-working element\u2019.\u00a0 It\u2019s inspirational to go to a foreign country\/city and just witness the people and business go-about their daily routines.\u00a0 True, living in the United States, I sometimes get jaded and frustrated with American laziness and gluttony but I feel, honestly, if I think about it in comparison to other societies, American business is quiet efficient.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kevinneal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/moscow_wall.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-494\" title=\"Red Square Wall - Moscow\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kevinneal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/moscow_wall-1024x764.jpg\" width=\"502\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kevinneal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/moscow_wall-1024x764.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.kevinneal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/moscow_wall-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 502px) 100vw, 502px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another commonality between Russian and Japanese society is their consideration for visitors.\u00a0 I absolutely admire this quality about these two countries which are distinctly different in some ways, yet quite similar in other ways.\u00a0 The Russian people went out-of-their-way to try and communicate in English at the airport, in the restaurant or in the hotel.\u00a0 They really did their best to make me feel at home.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kevinneal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/statue.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-492 aligncenter\" title=\"Russian Statue\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kevinneal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/statue-764x1024.jpg\" width=\"375\" height=\"502\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kevinneal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/statue-764x1024.jpg 764w, https:\/\/www.kevinneal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/statue-224x300.jpg 224w, https:\/\/www.kevinneal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/statue.jpg 968w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you ever do visit Moscow, however, be prepared for traffic!\u00a0 Wow \u2013 this was something I was surprised about.\u00a0 Although we had drivers for our travels and didn\u2019t have to rent a car it was crazy just simply being a passenger.\u00a0 There is massive traffic in Moscow that you should know.\u00a0 Give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination and know the back roads, if possible.\u00a0 I would compare the level of traffic congestion to that of Manhattan, New York (US).\u00a0 However, the drivers in Moscow are aggressive, just like in Manhattan, but they have amazing skill to weave and dodge obstacles and they lack the anger that overcomes American drivers.\u00a0 In Moscow I did not witness one single driver either honk their horn and\/or \u2018flip-the-bird\u2019.\u00a0 It seems as though this traffic mess is just accepted as a condition for living in Moscow.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kevinneal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/moscow_traffic.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-491\" title=\"Moscow Traffic\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kevinneal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/moscow_traffic-1024x764.jpg\" width=\"502\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kevinneal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/moscow_traffic-1024x764.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.kevinneal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/moscow_traffic-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.kevinneal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/moscow_traffic.jpg 1296w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 502px) 100vw, 502px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To compensate for the traffic congestion it seems that law enforcement is quite lenient.\u00a0 A result of the massive traffic is that people have to park their cars somewhere and, believe me; \u00a0they park them wherever they can find space!\u00a0 You park on the sidewalk, sideways or in other areas because you have to.\u00a0 Maybe I can go into the Parking Garage business in Moscow?<\/p>\n<p>Finally, again, I appreciate all the hospitality of the Russian people.\u00a0 Stereotypes and history is something hard to overcome but it seems that the integrated approach of a world economy is truly a reality.\u00a0 I\u2019m humbled to see it, and to be a part of it.<\/p>\n<p>\u0412\u0435\u043b\u0438\u043a\u0438\u0435\u00a0\u043b\u044e\u0434\u0438<\/p>\n<p>\u5049\u5927\u306a\u4eba\u3005<\/p>\n<p>Great People,<\/p>\n<p>Kevin<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I made my first business trip to Moscow a few weeks ago.\u00a0 It was a remarkable experience and it\u2019s always very interesting for me to indulge in different countries and cultures.
